What Does a Healthy Life Mean to You?

The concept of a healthy lifestyle may mean different things to different people. And what we may perceive to be a healthier lifestyle isn’t always the best journey for us. A healthy lifestyle should keep and improve someone’s physical health and mental well-being. We can easily become hung up on a certain body image, or amounts of weight lost or gained, and forget that life is too short to spend on activities that don’t increase our well-being holistically.

A healthy lifestyle does not have to mean deprivation and uncompromising exercise regimes. It can, and I believe should, also include enjoying the pleasures of life and respecting our bodies and ourselves as we are, while moving towards healthy goals. It’s important to consider what health means to you, and what you really want in return from your healthier lifestyle choices.

Finding Balance in Your Healthy Lifestyle

We want to be in a position of confidence and health with our bodies, while living our lives and experiences to the fullest. I never promote a restrictive lifestyle or any single approach for my clients when aiding them on their health journey. Those who know me know that I work tirelessly at my training, but I’m more than happy to make up a session later in the week for a day on the waves with great friends. I have also learned that I can happily justify and manage too many calories if it means a night out enjoyed with my partner. A healthy lifestyle for me is about managing myself so I can get the most out of my experiences. Can allowing enjoyment in life’s simple pleasures and sustaining a healthy lifestyle really co-exist? Absolutely!

Finding Your Path to Health

There is an abundance of information and advice out there to help us on our way to a healthier life. However, sometimes the amount of ideas can be more confusing than helpful. As I’m sure you’re aware, depending on whom you ask, a healthy lifestyle may consist of any number of lifestyle choices. Veganism, Clean-Eating, Low-Carb, High-Carb, CrossFit, certain Religions, Gluten-Free, Positive Thinking, Meditation and thats only scratching the surface. The list could go on forever, and that’s my point. There is no “one size fits all” when it comes to healthier living and finding balance, so don’t feel the need to fall into a category or the need to adopt any of these. Different things work for different people and creating your own healthy lifestyle can consist of whatever suits your needs best. I am not here today to tell you what to do, but to say the choice is yours. However, no matter what your choice, there are a few necessities that are required to obtain and sustain the healthiest you.

The Foundation of any Healthy Lifestyle

I’ve witnessed success come from many different approaches and have learned to respect and encourage whatever approach works. With that being said, I have come to realise no matter what shape your health journey takes, there are some simple rules that will always apply.

• Drink water
• Move your body
• Get outside
• Eat vegetables
• Find enjoyment in your process, it’s never-ending
• Share the journey
• Don’t sweat the small stuff!
• Find time to relax
Remember, live a little. As a wise man once said  – “All things that are still to come lie in uncertainty; live straightway!” – Seneca.

Remember to enjoy both yourself and your health journey.
